Joe's Story

Joe,

How was your week? Have you been able to learn to read more words? I wanted to write to you this week and tell you about the first time I shot a deer. When Elise was a baby, less than 1 years old, my friend and I took the four wheelers up on a ride on the first day of deer season. I brought my deer hunting rifle,  just in case but we were not really hunting, just going for a ride.

After unloading the four wheelers. I slung my rifle over my shoulder and we rode up the mountain. After only a few minutes we drove by an opening in the trees and a big buck jumped out. I was shocked. I quickly stopped the four wheeler, jumped off and put my gun up to shoot a “bang!”. I had one shot and I hit the deer. It instantly fell to the ground dead. My friend and I walked up and there was the deer. Now came the really hard part. We had to skin the deer. All I had was a pocket knife and a tow strap. My friend and I called my Uncle on his cell phone to ask how to skin the deer. He told us how to cut it open, take out the guts, and said after we did that it would be easiest to not skin it and take it to the butcher like that. We did it. We took all of the guts out, then strapped the deer on the front of the four wheeler and drove back to the truck. When I got home I told Mom I shot a deer, she didn’t believe me, but it was true. I took her outside of the apartment to my little pickup truck and showed Mom the deer. She was so shocked… ask her.

I can’t wait to go deer hunting with all you boys.

Love Dad

Joey loved the story of your first deer hunt… sort of hunt :). He’s holding on to your letter, carrying it everywhere.

Dad,

Hi and I’m so excited to go hunting when you come back. Love Joe
